PENTA Donation Supports WHS Athletic Facilities Renovation Project
WESTBOROUGH_ PENTA Communications, Inc. is pleased to announce that a $1,500 donation has been made to support the Westborough High School (WHS) Athletic Facilities Renovation Project, The Rangers on Track (TROT).
“We are delighted to join many other companies that have stepped up in support of this wonderful initiative, affording Westborough students with new upgrades to their athletic facilities. Recreational and competitive sports help our youth develop vital skills like collaborative teamwork, excellent work ethic, and healthy habits,” said Deborah Penta, founder and CEO of PENTA Communications, Inc.
Renovation plans began in spring 2016 with the establishment of The Rangers on Track (TROT) Committee, commissioned by the Westborough Public School Committee, to explore potential upgrades to the conditions of the track, bleachers, artificial turf, storage, and Upper Hayes Field at WHS.
At the October 2017 Fall Town Meeting, a Town Warrant Article for $3.5 million was approved to fund the project, and a fundraising subcommittee was charged with raising an additional $500,000 to complete it.
A key component of the WHS Athletic Renovation Project is the replacement of the deteriorating track and artificial turf, which is over a decade old and is long past the industry life expectancy of 8 to 10 years. This reconstruction is essential not only for aesthetics, but for the safety of students and athletes who could become injured on the current hard, crumbling surfaces.
Other necessary repairs include updating the bleachers and press box to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements to ensure everyone can enjoy these facilities to the fullest extent. Increased storage, field lighting, and improvements to the Upper Hayes Field are also on the agenda.
A ceremonial ground-breaking event was held on Tuesday, June 12, and as of this same date, $335,000 was raised to help complete these projects. Recent efforts have brought the total amount raised to $475,000 (donations still welcome).
The Westborough Public Schools have an outstanding reputation as a leading national school system. In 2016, Newsweek Magazine touted Westborough High School as the fifth Best Public High School in Massachusetts, and in 2015, the high school was ranked the ninth Best School System in Massachusetts by Boston Magazine.
