PENTA Celebrates United Nations Day with Donation to Foundation
Westborough, MA – PENTA Communications, Inc. an integrated full service marketing, advertising and public relations firm headquartered in Westborough, Massachusetts, recently announced its $2,500 donation to the United Nations (UN) Foundation in celebration of United Nations Day on October 24, 2013.
The UN Foundation is an accredited 501(c)(3) public charity, dedicated to supporting the UN’s efforts. It is not a part of the UN system, though it does work closely with many UN agencies. The UN Foundation does not receive any funding from the UN. The organization supports the UN and strengthens US-UN relations through public education, advocacy, and outreach. The Foundation also supports UN efforts financially through grant making and by building innovative public-private partnerships with corporations, NGO’s, foundations, and individuals.
Its six impact areas include: Global Health, Energy and Climate, Sustainable Development, Technology, US-UN Relations, and Women and Population. The Foundation is focused on select global problems – decreasing childhood mortality, improving disaster relief, protecting diverse culture and environments, creating a clean energy future, empowering women and girls, and improving US-UN relations. In pursuing its work, the Foundation tries to involve the public in the work of the UN; encouraging partnerships with the UN; identifying solutions to global challenges; enhancing UN operations; advocating for the UN and increasing giving to international programs.
In 1997, Ted Turner pledged $1 billion to support United Nations causes. The gift, which was unprecedented at the time in both size and nature, led to the creation of the UN Foundation, and has served as a catalyst for change in philanthropy, on global issues, and at the United Nations. Turner is Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
PENTA, a member of the United Nations Global Compact, has aligned its firm with the principles of the United Nations, and has demonstrated its local commitment to the six impact areas of the UN Foundation through its support of numerous community organizations in these impacted areas.
The $2,500 donation to the Foundation is one of 25 donations that the firm is making as part of its “Celebration of 25 years” community giveback campaign in honor of its 25th anniversary year. The firm has designated 25 organizations to which it will donate before the end of its anniversary year.
“We believe in strengthening communities both locally and globally,” said Deborah Penta, CEO of PENTA Communications, Inc. “We take our commitment to the United Nations Global Compact seriously and are pleased to offer support to its Foundation in honor of both our 25th anniversary year, and in an effort to help build awareness for United Nations Day.”
United Nations Day celebrates the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the United Nations Charter. October 24th has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that this day be observed by Member States as a public holiday.
“This year again, we saw the United Nations come together on armed conflict, human rights, the environment, and many other issues. We continue to show what collective action can do. We can do even more. In a world that is connected, we must be more united. On United Nations Day, let us pledge to live up to our founding ideals and work together for peace, development and human rights,” said Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
